Title: Cannot Rename a Collection - Get Permission Error
Post by: Indy33 on November 15, 2024, 06:03:41 PM
- I have a backup of my Collection_A from a Win10 Pro on my NAS.
- I have a newer Collection_B on a new Win11 Pro Computer.
- I cannot Rename Col_A in VS on the new Win11 Pro computer across the network, gets an error.
- Therefore I copied Col_A to the new Win11 computer.
- I still get an error when trying to Rename the Collection just copied. Sorry I didn't capture the exact error.

On the Win11 Pro computer I went to Col A folder Properties/Security and set "Full Control" for my account on my Col A folder. VS still could not rename Col A.

The solution was to set the sub folders "INHERITANCE" permissions. To navigate to that setting do the following.

Right click on your VS data folder and select Properties/Security and click on the "Advanced" button at the bottom.

Not sure if step 1 is required below, but that's what I did. Then follow steps 2 & 3.
Now I can Rename ColA !!!

Hi,

OK, thanks.  Without the error message and without knowing the original permissions it's hard to know what was wrong here.
