I'm not having any problems, more of a general question. I'd have to search for examples, but sometimes it seems that vinyl (generally older) that seems noisy to my ears does not generate as many absolute (before pp/bp) clicks as newer vinyl that seems less noisy to my ears. I'm willing to admit to not having perfect hearing, but was wondering if there's something in the click algorithm that causes this. I generally use a pretty low setting for everything (sensitivity 2, pp 3, bp 4).
Click detection is more of an art than a science. The number of clicks detected is not, in general, a reliable indicator of the condition of the disc.
Fair enough, thanks!
Have you tried ultrasonic cleaning? I am often amazed at how much surface noise, clicks, and pops it removes from my EBAY used LP purchases, and we are talking about some seriously grungy LPs.
They end up so quiet that sometimes when I am monitoring and the needle is between tracks I think for a moment that the preamp has gone dead...
