General Discussion / Stereo cartridge archiving mon...
Last post by LtMandella - December 11, 2024, 06:16:14 PM
I bought a nice set of Franklin Mint LPs (100 greatest classical).  LPs appear pristine but I always ultrasound clean LPs anyway before ripping.

My problem is that these LPs are all mono, and I only have a stereo AudioTeknica moving coil cartridge.  It was a bear for me to install  and setup (eyesight pretty feeble at 70+ years, not to mention my hearing) and my TT arm does not use interchangeable shells, so I am stuck using the stereo cartridge.

Is there a recommended stereo to mono converter that will safely and optimally convert the two channel output of the cartridge or phono preamp into optimal sounding mono signal?

Could I do it with optimal sound quality in Audacity or VinylStudio after ripping the LPs with the stereo cartridge?

I understand the main problem is dealing with the vertical channel of the stereo cartridge when there is no intentional vertical signal in the mono discs, just noise...

I've read this and the link to the other thread. My question is can I use the same license on Windows and Mac?

My intended workflow is to rip using my Mac Mini M4 to a network share and then do all the tidying up and exporting on a Windows PC.

Thanks,
Rob

Technical Support / Re: Phono Pre-amp

Hi,

Presumably your soundcard has a line-in socket, so you don't need a USB device.  This gives you a lot of choice and I would shop around for a conventional preamp (as opposed to a USB one) that suits your budget.  You might find something on eBay.

Technical Support / Phono Pre-amp
Last post by BigB - December 10, 2024, 03:10:46 AM
Hello.
I have just downloaded the Pro version of Vinyl Studio.
I am in Australia and want to get a phono Pre-amp. I would like some suggestions on a good unit,Mid range or just above.
I don't need to spend a lot of Dollars at the moment as i'm new to this. I would like to know what pre-amp is compattable with the software as some of the units here i am not sure about. They don't give you much information.
I have a audio-technica AT-LP60X Turntable and using a Creative Soundblaster Audigy Rx Soundcard.
Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Hi,

1. Position the red end-of-track marker at the end of track 1.

2. Advance the corresponding green start-of-track marker to the start of track 2, thus leaving a gap between them (see screenshot below).

What you *don't* want to do is insert any extra markers.

I have tried to find an option to remove the beep that occurs when actions are finished.
Is it possible?
If not it would be a great relief for my ears, especially when using headphones, if you implemented the option.
I'm sure there are more actions that beep when finished. You certainly know!
A general option to turn off the beep can be the easiest way to implement it.

Ah, this is interesting.  I know DSD is not editable, so I had assumed the RIAA was happening within the Korg.  Thanks, putting a phono pre-amp in isn't a problem

DSD is a non-editable format, which is why the box is greyed out.  AudioGate cheats.  If you tell it to apply equalisation, it converts to PCM and back again.  A better bet is to purchase a proper phono preamp.
