Recording Error: Incoming Audio Format has Changed

Has anyone see this error:

There was an error while recording:

The incoming audio format has changed.

Says to troubleshoot in the "Check Level" page, but there is nothing there I can see.

My ADC is the RME ADI-Pro FS. Is there a setting I am missing? This error seems to hit with nearly every recording and it's really frustrating!

Also, when registering for the forum, did anyone get a repeated error typing "SAUSAGES?" Would not let me register, even when i copied and pasted the "type this" text.

Hi,

Is this on the Mac or Windows please?  Also, what kind of audio digitising device do you have>?

We have fixed the SAUSAGES thing, thanks for reporting it.

Louder666

This is on a Mac. My Analog to Digital converter is the RME ADI-Pro FS.

Many thanks!

OK, thanks.  When this happens, do you see any change on the RME front panel display?

Louder666

Hmmmm, I have not checked the RME, will check today.

Louder666

Nothing reported on the RME, no change in the analog meters, same displayed options, selections, etc.

Seems like something is interrupting the DSD stream so that VinylStudio senses part of it as PCM.  I sould try a different USB cable and / or port.  Any trouble in this area might cause this.  Also, do you have another computer yo can test this with?

Failing that you could talk to RME - you may have a faulty unit.

To update this thread, looks like it is an issue with the 2018 Mac Mini and potentially newer Mac's with USB-C. There is a driver reset that occurs, this causes a drop out. There are a number of RME users who have run into this (those using RME in studios, not recording vinyl). RME has logged the issue with Apple, but there is no real feedback on when it will be addressed. I tested the RME on an older Mac laptop with USB type A connectors and a PC with USB type A connectors, no issues at all. A work around is using a Thunderbolt 3 hub as it bypasses the issue. Sucks because the least expensive option was $100.

Been a loyal Apple user for nearly 20 years now, but they've really been shitting the bed as of late.... the new Mac Mini has been really frustrating to use. My old 2010 Mini was great, only upgraded because it was running very slow, at this point I'm thinking of switching back to my old Mini!

Most interesting (and frustrating!), thanks very much for the update.

I'm a new user and experiencing the EXACT same problem.  I get about 1/2 through a recording and it will get interrupted with the "audio format has changed" message.  I'm on Windows 10, Pro-Ject Debut Recordmaster HiRes and a Mytek Brooklyn DAC+. Very frustrating.

Also, I'm attempting DSD recording using the ASIO drivers.  On the tracks I get through, the results are fantastic

Hi,

This could be a USB problem.  I would try with a different USB cable (perhaps audio grade) and / or port.

OK.  I'm currently waiting on a Pangea Audio Premier XL to show up.  I'll try again once it arrives.
