format for saving tracks

If I save tracks from VS to an AAC format (recorded originally in VS as WAV) then import them to the Music app on a Mac as AAC, does the import to the Music app decode the saved AAC files then re-encode them as AAC, or does it just pull the already saved AAC files directly into the Music app? If the former, would it not be better to save the tracks from VS in a lossless format (WAV, or would another format be better - what settings would be best?) and import those to the Music app as AAC?

Music copies the files verbatim.

Don't save tracks as WAV, by the way.  Most music players (including iTunes / Music) can't read the tags we put in there 🤷
