Recording Singles and 78s

The easiest way to record singles or 78s is to add each side of each single or 78 to your collection as a separate album and check the This is a single box in the Record window. VinylStudio will then:

• Automatically add a track with the same name as the album title (which is generally what you want).
• Save this track (by default) in a folder called singles when you save your tracks (i.e. all such tracks go in the same folder). This, however, is configurable in the .

Thus, for example, if you wanted to record Elvis Costello's Watching the Detectives, you would:

1. Add an 'album' to your collection with artist Elvis Costello and title Watching the Detectives, ensuring that the This is a single box is checked. Bear in mind that this album will consist of just the one track.
2. Record the A side.

And then, to record the B side (which is Alison):

1. Add another album to your collection with artist Elvis Costello and title Alison, again ensuring that the This is a single box is checked.
2. Record the B side.

As of VinylStudio 13, there is now also a way to add a single to your collection that treats both sides as a single album, something which many people might prefer.

To do this, create an album where the album title is the names of the two sides of the single separated by a forward slash (/) or vertical bar (|). Then record both sides of the single as normal and VinylStudio will automatically create a track for each side with the appropriate name.

Thus, for example, if you wanted to record Elvis Costello's Watching the Detectives (which features Alison on the B side), you would:

1. Add an 'album' to your collection with artist Elvis Costello and title Watching the Detectives / Alison, ensuring that the This is a single box is checked.
2. Record the single (both the A side and the B side).

For EP's (remember those?), you will need to add any additional tracks manually in the Split Tracks window, whichever method you choose.

Recording Other Material with no Track Breaks

If you had, say, a tape of an interview with The Dalai Lama, the procedure is much the same as recording one side of a single or 78. Thus you would:

1. Check the This is a single box in the Record window
2. Add an album to your collection with artist Joe Bloggs (that's you) and title Interview with the Dalai Lama
3. Record the tape
