Hi all, I'm finding when searching on Discogs that some of the obscure catalogue numbers in my collection come back with over 200 results, none of which are correct.

I think it would be really helpful (as an option) to be able to define genre and a year range (1987 to 1995 for example).

What are the chances?

Hi,

I don't think the Discogs API supports that, but I will check.  Have you tried adding more search terms (for the album title or artist) to narrow down the search?

Andy Morris

My workflow in these situations is to use the discogs website to search and then copy and paste the release id into VS.

A link to discogs on the 'Lookup Album Online form would be handy, perhaps by making the word "Discogs" into link

@robxbl69, can you give me an example of a couple of catalog numbers that generate too many hits please?  The Discogs API supports more options than I thought and I want to experiment.  Thanks.

One example is this (my copy looks very similar).

https://www.discogs.com/release/2537991-Unknown-Artist-2001

The catalogue number is 3002 and when searching in VS it doesn't come up in the top 200. I had to do as Andy Morris suggested and search on Discogs website.

If when entering the catalogue number in VS you could choose a year range or have a single box where in this instance I could have put 2001 that would search both artist and title (as often I have no idea if what is written on the records is the track title or artist). I guess being able to refine to "Electronic" genre would help also.

I ripping today so will post another example when it comes up.

Thanks, Rob
