Software Recording Equalisation

Not to be confused with the graphic equaliser, VinylStudio, can apply recording equalisation in software, including the standard RIAA curve, either during the recording process itself or subsequently. This is useful if you want to use a 'flat' phono preamp, but it is also valuable when recording 78s, or other older pressings which don't use a standard curve.

In such cases, the RIAA equalisation applied by your phono preamp will be incorrect. VinylStudio can 'reverse' the equalisation applied by your preamp and then apply the correct curve. You don't need to do anything special to accomplish this, just enter the correct settings. VinylStudio comes with a wide variety of preset curves or you can define your own, although determining the correct curve can sometimes be tricky as discs pressed before the recording industry settled on RIAA vary widely in the curves they use.

The following screenshot shows the various equalisation options available. VinylStudio can also compensate for the distortions introduced when you record 78s on a turntable running at 45 rpm, if that's what you plan to do.

Recording equalisation is actually applied as an FFT filter. You can edit these filters yourself if you wish.
